2 Clear-Cut “Survival” Reasons Why You Should Eat Less Meat

2 Clear-Cut “Survival” Reasons Why You Should Eat Less Meat

Meat’s tasty I’ll give it that much…

Animal rights aside…

The average American ate 71 pounds of red meat and 54 pounds of chicken or turkey back in 2012 which to be honest is quite a lot… 1

That’s 1136 ounces of red and 864 ounces of white…

That’s 3 ounces of red and 2 ounces of white meat every day…

That’s 5 ounces every day which is a lot if you’re not working out…

In fact, for cancer fighting reasons I’d recommend that a woman shouldn’t eat more than 2 ounces of meat total per day…

For a guy?

2-3 ounces at most…

White is best…

Why?

Red Meat May Put You At Risk For Cancer…

Now that isn’t a guarantee because the study that discovered that fact used mice…

Yet it’s worth saying that a lot of studies before it have found that people who gorge on a lot of red meat are a higher risk for cancer… 2

It’s thanks to a tumour forming sugar called Neu5Gc, which is found in most mammals yet not in humans…

And apparently our bodies get a kind of allergic attack from it…

When they tested Neu5Gc in mice, it caused instant cancers in them…

Which is quite scary…

When I didn’t know better in the past, while doing Paleo, I had been eating a lot of beef…

Grass fed and conventional…

My blood sugar improved however my heart health would later suffer…

(And that story is told in gory detail in my book…)

Eventually I switched to white meat like pork and chicken (though I really don’t like the taste of chicken… too bland…)…

However the story doesn’t end there because…

My Cholesterol Numbers Were Still Shooting Through the Roof…

And I couldn’t figure out why…

Eventually I cut down on the meat and the coconut oil and things got better… a lot better…

And I make it a habit not to over-eat meat if I can…

Ain’t easy, because I still enjoy the taste…

Well, there’s now another reason why over eating meat isn’t a good idea…

Meat Protein Is Transformed Into “Heart Attack” Poison In Your Gut…

Yeah this was likely one of the reasons why I couldn’t get my bad cholesterol (proteins) down…

Because I was still eating too much meat…

You can thank roasted Chinese pork for that…

Tasty yet deadly…

Researchers in a recent mice study found that heart clogging plaque buildup leapfrogged upward when the mice were fed a diet high in choline… 3

Choline is found in meat and eggs…

Heart choline artery 030516 1

When that choline reaches your gut it’s transformed by your gut bacteria into trimethylamine or TMA for short…

And this clan of gut bacteria (of which no name has been given) uses TMA for food…

In the liver, it’s transformed into an artery-clogging gunk that leads to heart attacks and strokes…

Definitely not fun…

Is Another Drug Really Worth It?

Now the science guys want to find a way to block gut bacteria from creating TMA using a drug nicknamed DMB…

A high-choline diet caused plaques to build up in the arteries of mice genetically predisposed to atherosclerosis. But treating these mice with DMB completely prevented this artery clogging, Hazen says.

Apparently this anti-TMA drug compound or DMB is naturally found in some olive oils and red wines… which may explain why people eating a Mediterranean diet have less heart disease, heart attacks and strokes…

As you know, the drug industry has a pretty spotty record of coming up with drugs that don’t have side effects or create a new problem after sort of solving the original one…

And of course this drug hasn’t actually been created or tested in people yet anyway…

So you know what?

It’s Easier To Just Eat Less Meat and Eggs…

I mean do you really need to eat that much meat?

Frankly the only reason I ever did was because the salt just seemed to trigger this insane over eating…

Plus I didn’t want to swallow huge amounts of processed carbs while managing my own type 2 diabetes years ago…

Now?

You can get as much protein as you need from beans, nuts and seeds…

Something I highly recommend in my book on treating type 2 diabetes

In my book I discuss the other two reasons why over eating meat and just protein in general is a bad idea if you want to age gracefully, avoid cancer and keep looking young…
