Low Carb Diets Blast Low Fat Diets When It Comes to Weight Loss

Low Carb Diets Blast Low Fat Diets When It Comes to Weight Loss

Low carb diets appear to be better for short term weight loss than a low fat diet says US researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona…

It’s just more proof showing that our fear of fat (any and all fat) isn’t doing our waist lines any favours…

Plus there’s already been research that shows that low carb diets and methods greatly help diabetics… improving blood sugar levels or blood glucose levels and blood pressure…

So What Did They Find in Detail?

In this recent study, the scientists reviewed 41 different trials to find out if the benefits were real… 1

When low carb diets were compared to other diets like the old school low fat diet, it turned out it was more effective for weight loss without raising blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol…

I get a lot of questions about whether fat will raise cholesterol levels and I have to keep telling people that cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood are due to too much “easy-to-digest” carbohydrates especially pure sugar… 2

Once people get it into their heads that some doctor said fat is bad they seem to believe it forever…

If you’re reading this right now, I know you are way smarter than that…

The Limits of the Review

Now these kind of big reviews aren’t perfect…

For example there’s no information on whether the weight loss was muscle, fat or water…

Though based on my previous research and other studies it is typically fat – fat around the organs that starts being used up… and burned for energy… the lower carb you go that is…

Plus the lead author claims that we still need long term studies on low carb diets…

The challenge of course is that it’s really hard and expensive to run such studies and most governments and businesses see no reason to pay for it…

As lead researcher Dr. Heath Fields states: 3

The best conclusion to draw is that adhering to a short-term low-carb diet appears to be safe and may be associated with weight reduction.

How well people stick to low carb diets depends… though again based on personal experience and the experience of many others I know of online and offline, a low carb diet is actually quite easy to stick to…

The researchers and doctors doing these studies of course can’t outright say that kind of thing…

Final Thoughts

As always people need to totally toss and dump all processed foods from their diet which tend to be high in salt (increasing high blood pressure), high in chemicals (increasing inflammation) and high in added or hidden sugar (increasing blood sugar)…

Inflammation as I’ve told you is very very problematic and may trigger blood sugar spikes, cancer, brain and nerve issues – you name it…

“We encourage patients to eat real food and avoid highly processed foods, especially processed meats such as bacon, sausage, hot dogs, and ham when following any particular diet,” she said. 4
